Sneak Peek: Aaron & Tamara’s Wedding

Aaron is an awesome guy, and also a good co-worker for a number of years. So I'm familiar with what a hard worker he is, how uproarious his laughter is, and just how cool it is to be around the guy. But you know who knows him way more than me? The lovely Tamara. Tamara has been a great friend over the years too, and I knew her before she and Aaron were officially dating, but as she tells it, she 'had her eye on him for a looooong time.'

Big Sneak Peek: Katrina & Vitaly’s Central Park Wedding

Interesting story, I met Katrina and Vitaly in Central park while I was shooting an engagement session for another couple. They waited until I was taking a small break (After ninja jumping on one ledge of the Bow Bridge to take a shot) and asked me for my information. This led to a short series of emails, and a couple months later, here we are shooting a wedding in the same place we met! I'm loving how the images in the beautiful fall leaves are looking. It was a little chilly, but they really stuck it out.

Richard and Dachele will be getting married this weekend, and I just wanted to post some of my favorites from their engagement shoot before they tie the knot!  I’ve taken a few engagement shots at the wonderful Highline park in NoHo, and the place just screams to be photographed.  Abundant greenery, overgrown style, and a smooth industrialism that oozes coolness.  I came here the very first time with my cousin Jonathan, who wrote an excellent post on the Highline Park.  A great read, if  Read more

Josh (Me) & Vanessa: Engaged!

OK... I'll try not to be too corny, but you know how much of a hopeless romantic I am.

Vanessa and I met a few years ago, in New York. She was visiting from Colombia, and we had mutual friends and went to a party.

I thought she was pretty for sure, but not somebody that I would date.
She thought I was a nice guy, and a good dancer (her words) but nothing sparked...

Ahhh, I love this job… Second picture is my personal favorite with the perfect expression!

Aaron and Tamara have both been my friends for years.  I worked with Aaron before in the same Tech Department, and now am helping him buy a camera and some lenses. (Go Nikon!) I met Tamara with a few other friends way back when, and have always thought her to be a great sister; funny, caring, and hardworking.

Together, oh my goodness, they produce some of the biggest smiles I have ever seen and I was glad to capture a couple (hundred) good ones on our engagement shoot last week.   Read more

Ena & Jason: Engagement in the great indoors

This blog has been moved to joshliba.com/blog, and you are currently viewing an archived post.  To visit the new blog, click here!

On a Sunday Afternoon, Ena and Jason invited me to take their engagement pictures at Ena’s house.  I had been there before and remembered some nice trees outside and a pool area and green grass all around that we could use.  However, when we finally met up, it was stormy and rainy outdoors!  No problem, we just needed to find some creative options indoors in tighter spaces.

Any window makes for terrific quality light, and to my delight, this house had a LOT of windows. Big ones!

Here are some of my favorites from our rainy day engagement session indoors.  Near the end of the set, the rain stopped outside and we went out onto the porch for some final shots. Read more

Wedding: Mike & Iveth

The day started out with a nice patch of sun, which eventually flipped to a rainy thunderstorm! Even on days where the weather doesn't work out, there are always great pictures to be had indoors. As long as there's love, there will be great pictures. Or um,... at least, where there's love, and a decent photographer.

Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro: Real Wedding Review (Ring shots!)

This blog has been moved to joshliba.com/blog, and you are currently viewing an archived post.  To visit the new blog, click here!

In looking at some of the search terms that bring people to this blog, I noticed a few searches for “Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens and wedding rings” and also the question, “Is the Tamron 90mm good enough for weddings?”  I’m pretty sure I googled those exact same phrases when doing research on this popular lens.

“Is it good enough?”  Short answer: Yes. It’s good enough.  It’s actually one of the best.

Optically, the Tamron performs as well, if not better in some respects, than name-brand Nikon ‘Micro’ lenses triple it’s price.

Also, as a wedding photographer, this lens only comes out of my bag once during the day, so I don’t feel like dropping over a thousand dollars for a lens that gets used for maybe ten shots.   Read more
